NPD and Sweepland

by admin on February 14, 2007

NPD SweepstakesIn case you haven’t tried it yet, here is the scoop on NPD’s latest addition Sweepland. NPD has spiced things up a little by adding a new sweepstakes system they call sweepland. Now for each survey you complete you get the usual sweepstakes entries for the daily, monthy, and quartely sweepstakes plus 25 sweepland points and a chance to spin the sweepland wheel. They don’t have Vanna White, but it is still entertaining. The wheel contains prizes ranging from $500 instant winner to additional sweepland points ranging from 25 to 500 points. Once you earn your points, then the real strategy begins, how to use them. They have a menu of prizes, and you must bid your collected points for a particular prize for a chance to win. They give you details such as number of prizes per item, percentage of people bidding, etc, so you gotta be savvy on how you spend your points. I tried a couple of times but haven’t won yet, anyone else given this a try?

I just got notice that I won a Ski trip to Utah. I’m very excited and will let everyone know how the whole process of accepting the terms go. Has anyone else won a trip and gone on it?

This should be a good test. I have been a member of NPDOR since 8/2002, and have obviously accumulated thousands of points, and I just put the whole lot on the BluRay player. Good or bad move? Will let you know if I win, or have to quit the site as being a waste of time. Wish me luck.

If your instinct is correct, you might be the lucky person to win the Blu-Ray, BUT you are at least a 1000 to 1 shot against winning. Well, we only have a few hours to find out. Maybe they should award two players since we are nice people!

No Luck. I didn’t win. All of those points down the drain. No more NPD surveys for me. Good luck to the rest of you.

Ron, sorry to hear that you didn’t win. Prize draws are like playing the lottery, their is no guarantee of winning, but the people that win, win big!

That is why I mix up my recommendations, with some guaranteed paid sites like GlobalTestMarket and SurveySpot, and prize sites like NPD for long shot big prize draws. Same philosophy as going to work five days a week and playing the lottery every now and then.

Hi Jim, thanks for your interest and comments which make me feel a bit better. Actually, I’m just disappointed…like a bad beat in poker, and I can live with that. My girlfriend was sympathetic, and offered to buy me a Blu-Ray for Christmas. Good girl, but maybe it’s because I’m taking her to Paris in two weeks! Will try your suggested sites. Thanks. Hey, how come there are not more people on your excellent blog??

Hey everyone,

For those that have won prizes, how long did it take after the close of the contest for you to be notified that you were a winner? Guess I’m hoping it takes a couple of days and that I still won something, lol. Thanks.

Ron Parnes October 4, 2008 at 6:29 pm

I think it takes about a week to 10 days…to find out that I DIDN’T win.

I’ve been playing for like a year now, and haven’t won a thing. I’ve put anywhere from 5 to 500 points on items and cash prizes, and zippo! Nothing! I’m hoping I’ll win a big prize sometime soon. Nice to see others are winning. Any suggestions from WINNERS as to how to make my chances better? What did you winners do (i.e. how ya’ll submit your points, how many points per item, etc…)??? Thanx.

Hi all. I just returned from Paris and southern France, which helped me get over blowing off thousands of points and not winning anything. (See my comments above). If you care to hear from a loser, as promised, I gave up on NPD and no longer answer their surveys as they are a waste of time…in my opinion. Good luck to the rest of you.

Hi Ron. I’m really not too confident
about NPDOR surveys. I totally
understand your frustration. I haven’t won a thing. I put like
55 points on three items that I would
LOVE to win, and 20 points on one or two items that I wouldn’t mind winning. But I don’t think I’ll win anything (as usual). I’ve tried
saving up a ton of points and putting
it all into one item, and (as is the
case with you) it didn’t work for me either. :( Do you know of any
GOOD, LEGIT survey sites that actually DO pay money, and that actually DO give out prizes?

Hi Alex: Sorry, but interesting to read that it’s not just me. Anyway, I am using http://www.e-rewards.com and have cashed in for free movie rentals at Blockbuster among other things. At least you get some immediate rewards for your time and effort. See #56 above from Jim the Admin for more ideas.

Man there’s a lot of negative people on this! It’s all about the luck of the draw with this site! You really can win, but it’s really a matter of luck!! I’ve won a weekend getaway hotel stay at marriot. Also 100 bucks! Haven’t won anything since then, but it all depends on what points you put down, and how lucky you are I guess! There could be someone who puts 1,000 and gets nothing, and someone who put 1 to 100 points on it, and got it.. It’s really all just a matter of chance! I can understand though how a lot of you feel because you haven’t won anything.. I would be pretty frustrated too if I had not won anything in the past… But since I have it still gives me hope that maybe I can win again!

I won twice on Sweepland last year a Magazine for 1 year, also won this month the 12th A gas card for 2 hundred. I only used 50 points. Can’t wait until I receive the card. I will let you know when I get the Gas Card.

I entered a contest a few months ago. I put 4000 points on a prize but didn’t get it.
Today I just put 1400 points on an item that expires today. We’ll see how that turns out.
I have only put points on prizes where there are more than one prize up for grabs.

I’ve been a member for months and have never won anything either,I normally enter 20-50 points per cash prize and 10-20 all other prizes and still nothing.I always make sure to check back everyday,I feel like the rest of you,Is this really ligit

Still haven’t gotten a thing from NPD and Sweepland. I’ve taken ALOT of surveys over the past year or so.

Reply

Bruce April 11, 2009 at 3:08 pm

I missed answering one survey & then I never received any other surveys. I had unused points for sweepsland but the link I had in my inbox is gone. Somehow I think this whole thing is just another scam.

Reply

alex April 12, 2009 at 3:40 pm

yes, I think it’s a scam too. You never hear from anyone on here who has won the big money and big ticket items. Only gas cards and small things. I’ve been doing this for so long, and how could it be that I haven’t gotten a thing…Probably because I’ve placed 90% of my points on expensive items (and they probably NEVER give out such items). I do think NPDOR and Sweepland are a scam. That’s too bad, because I think the concept is great, but oh well. :(

Reply

Jim the Admin April 12, 2009 at 6:34 pm

Since, I am the admin of the site, I have purposely avoided putting in my two cents, as not to sound biased. But okay, here is what I think. I will admit that I have played the games many times and not won, but I will also admit that NPD is not one of the sites that I am the most active with.

That being said, from reading the many blogs left from winners and happy members on this site I have to say that NPD is most likely not a scam. Plus its backed by NPD Online Research (NPDOR) a major market research firm, and one that is often quoted for having done market studies. Yes, the contests are tough to win, but so it the lottery and millions play each week. Its all part of the game!

Alex April 12, 2009 at 9:29 pm

Hi Jim, Maybe so. I hope this is the case. That would be terrific if IS, in fact, legit. :)

Just put a great number of points toward $1,000.00 Will see how it goes as of 04.30.09. I looked at the % of people participating (about 9%), thinking it may increase my odds.

I would love it if someone who actually WON the big money would place a comment on here, and tell us about it. Anyone out there ever won the big money? Or a VERY expensive item?

i have won the weekend getaway before, and that was pretty cool. It’s worth up to 1,000. How you could actually spend that much I do not know, unless I guess you got a really good room, and extras I dunnoo… They just charge ya the taxes for however much you spend though!

Reading all of thiese comments made me think it was. idk… also. it says “Please be advised that you will be responsible for all federal, state and local income taxes on the value of your prize. You will receive a 1099 Miscellaneous Tax Form for approximately $1,300.00 in January 2010. Please consult your tax adviser for details on how to report this income on your tax return.”
I dont really know about this so i dont know what it means..can anyone help?

To “Sour”…

First of all, I love your screen name. :) Sour. :)

Re: The email you received. Was the email from sweepland?

If it is from sweepland, then I’m guessing you won, and hopefully it is legit, and yes, you will have to pay taxes on $1300 in 2010 if you accept the gift.

I’d accept the gift only after reading ALL the fine print, just to be sure you aren’t scammed into committing to purchasing something later on down the line. Make sure they don’t get your credit card number. You should not have to give that out to receive a prize.

It’s legit. Just fill out the form and turn it in with taxes at the end of the year. That’s what I had to do with winning the weekend getaway prize.

Reply

CB May 29, 2009 at 3:02 pm

I won a grill from the sweepstakes and it just came in today, so it is definitely legit. I never gave any kind of credit card info or anything (I would never give that kind of info out).

HI everyone I was just reading everyones responses glad to hear that some of you has won would also like to know how to get more surveys
I’ve been with NPDOR for about a year now I get about 1 survey a month always get 25points for survey and always 30points on the spin wheel never won though put 100-250 points on things of interest

Reply

Alex July 3, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Dear Melissa,

No one really ever wins, I don’t think. Who are these people that they claim keep winning $5000 and $1000 prizes?????? Do they really exist????? I truly doubt it.

And why aren’t there any pictures and last names written of the winners (as is done for major lottery winners, for example).

This is a scam??? I’m really beginning to think so. If I ever truly win, I’ll retract all of my words and tell everyone on this page that it actually DOES work.

…But until then… I’ve been doing these surveys for a longggg time, and nothing!

Reply

John July 6, 2009 at 3:55 pm

I’ve been a member with NPD for about 7 years now and I can say with certainty that if you are taking these surveys to earn money then you are better off standing on a street corner with your hat in your hand. I’ve taken thousands of their surveys and managed to win the $100 random prize once (it took a couple of weeks to get the check and it cashed just fine). However, if you are interested in giving your opinion on products and services with the very slight chance you might win something then feel free to sign up.

Reply

Sour July 6, 2009 at 4:50 pm

well if u only enter a couple hundred points then u will have a small chance to win the prices. When i won my price(which i didnt claim because i didnt know if i should trust the website =[ ) i entered about 1500 pts and only 11% of the people put points in it. so yea…just letting u all know my story.

Reply

nik July 6, 2009 at 10:33 pm

idk. it must be tough to win a prize bc ive saved up 6000+ points and thew them on one thing and didnt win. kinda lame, but the surveys are sorta interesting, i wish it wanst nearly immposible to win s/t.

Reply

AJ July 6, 2009 at 10:50 pm

I’ve been with them for bout 5 yrs now, and all I’ve won is the $100 & the Weekend getaway prize, and I only put no more then 100 points on each one from what I can remember. It’s legit because I received both things.. Other than that, I haven’t won anything else.. Guess it’s just luck of the draw!!

Reply

Alec July 8, 2009 at 5:58 pm

How many points is considered to be a lot?

Reply

Ron Parnes July 8, 2009 at 8:42 pm

For those of you who are new to NPD, see my comments nos 52,54,55,57,63,65. Maybe a good analogy here is the difference between working at a job, or waiting for your dear old aunt to die to get her money. On other sites you get paid for what you do…just like a job. If you wait for your aunt, she’ll probably outlive you, or leave all the money to her cat. In which case you get nothing…just like NPD and Sweepland. Besides, NPD surveys always take longer than they estimate. Just a waste of time. You can get a job and make money, or pray for Hope and Change. On NPD you Hope for a win, but don’t even get pocket Change. Good luck.

chances of winning the laptop? I hope so! LOL
and I don’t mind taking the time to do the surveys
I’m just anxious to see if i really will win once

I don’t know WHAT to think of NPDOR and Sweepland anymore. I have put hundreds and hundreds of points on things for a loooong time and NOTHING. So… I don’t have too much faith in winning. I don’t know if it’s legitimate???? I never win a thing! . . . Even after over a year of doing it faithfully.
