NPD and Sweepland

by admin on February 14, 2007

NPD SweepstakesIn case you haven’t tried it yet, here is the scoop on NPD‘s latest addition Sweepland. NPD has spiced things up a little by adding a new sweepstakes system they call sweepland. Now for each survey you complete you get the usual sweepstakes entries for the daily, monthly, and quarterly sweepstakes plus 25 sweepland points and a chance to spin the sweepland wheel. They don’t have Vanna White, but it is still entertaining. The wheel contains prizes ranging from $500 instant winner to additional sweepland points ranging from 25 to 500 points. Once you earn your points, then the real strategy begins, how to use them. They have a menu of prizes, and you must bid your collected points for a particular prize for a chance to win. They give you details such as number of prizes per item, percentage of people bidding, etc, so you gotta be savvy on how you spend your points. I still do not thing it is as good as taking surveys for money, but the excitement of possibly winning the big prizes keep it entertaining. I tried a couple of times but haven’t won yet, anyone else given this a try?

@ 2 buff (lol)

well it depends on the percentage of people that want that same prize. The lower the % the higher the chance that you’ll get it. What I’m going to try to do its save up a lot of points, and I mean a lot. This will ensure that I have a really high chance of winning.

Hey, I’m so glad I found this blog! I just got an email from Sweepland saying I was the big winner in June – $5000?!?!?!? I joined NPDOR in 2000 mostly because I like giving my opinion on things. I never thought I would win. I must admit, though I am super excited if this is real, it makes me a little nervous. They emailed me a tax form I need to fill out. I see that AJ has won before so maybe you can tell me, did you do any kind of research to make sure you weren’t sending your SSN to a scammer? What was the name of the company who you sent your info to?

Jim the Admin August 7, 2009 at 12:46 pm

Carrie,

How exciting! While, I must admit that I have never won a prize that big, NPD is a legit company. Marden-Kane is the company contracted by NPD to help administer the SweepLand program, and they also handle the prize distribution. They are a very well know company, and here is a link that shows that NPD (NPDOR) is a client.

http://www.mardenkane.com/clients.cfm

There should be some reference to them on the email you received. Also here is a link to their contact page: http://www.mardenkane.com/contactus.cfm.

It has phone numbers on it, and maybe someone there can verify you winning status.

Be sure to come back and let us know if it all works out. Good Luck!

Whoot Whoot!!! Someone has won the big prize!!!! Congratulations. or however you spell it. If only I had sent my info I would have a touch screen pc at home right now. I’ve heard of many people winning since I found out this blog. Right now I think it’s legit.

Carrie,

What Jim says is true. It was mardenkane that I sent that information to. And I did look around to make sure that it was legit. We even called on it because we were wondering why you would be charged 1,000 for a weekend getaway.. And they told us they would only charge us taxes on what we spent. It is very legit! You’re very lucky you won that!! Congrats!

do anyone know where to complete the surveys for the points

Reply

Jim the Admin August 10, 2009 at 7:39 pm

Joao,

You must be an NPD member to receive the surveys. These surveys are rewarded with points that can then be used at the Sweepland site. Membership to NPD is free. Here is a link to the
NPD Registration Page.

Just wanted to follow up to let everyone know that I got my check and the bank accepted it with no problem! Thanks, everyone, for being so helpful and answering my questions. The money is basically already spent since we had a bunch of work done on the house last month – not exactly a sexy use for the money, but it definitely helps out. Thanks, guys!

Hi Everyone!

For all the winners — did you bank thousands of points and then use them? Or did you use a couple hundred? I usually don’t bank more than a thousand, then I distribute them among several prizes. What was your winning strategy? Thanks!

Reply

Sour September 29, 2009 at 7:35 pm

Well my strategy is to bank as many points as I can (usually more than 1 thousand) and try to win one of the prizes that people want the least. i wait until there is something i really want. last time i won the Touch PC but i didnt send some paper work so i didn not receive it. *sighs*. but there’s always another time

Kelsi October 18, 2009 at 10:08 pm

Does anyone know an estimate of how many points in total are in play? I just would love to calculate my true percentage of winning! I’ve banked up close to 1,000 but i just dont want to let go of them without knowing more info!

Thanks to everyone for their posts here. I’ve been with NPD for about 3 years and have saved up about 3,000 points now. I usually put in 10 points here and there, but have never won. On a few occassions, I’ve put in 200-300 points when they offer things like 5 $100 Gas Card Winners, but haven’t won entering that many points either.

I’m tempted to throw in my 3,000 points for something big, but I’d be crushed if I didn’t win after all this saving. If anyone here won, please post how many points you put in to win – the 10pts here and there method definitely does NOT work.

John Graham November 19, 2009 at 1:22 pm

To the winners — Does the winning email say Sweepland in it or MaryKane?

To everyone else — I have been skeptic of NPD/Sweepland for some time now too but I never thought they were a company that steals your informationa. I just entered my name in the recent Star Trek drawing package and it had a 1% popularity, so i entered like 1,040 pts in it, and im still waiting to hear from Sweepland if I won or not. Carrie how many pts did u enter and at what percentage was the vacation at?

I have close to 2000 points…should i enter the 1000 cash or the 2 prize 250?

Reply

Alex December 29, 2009 at 9:06 pm

Kelsi,

With the way things have been going for people (i.e. they hardly ever win anything), perhaps try for the $250 this time. 2,000 isn’t alot of points in the grand scheme of things. There are thousands and thousands and thousands of people playing Sweepland, and the odds of winning ANYTHING are slim to none.

OR…

You could wait until you rack up 4000 points and place 2000 points on $250 and 2000 points on $500.

OR…

You could wait until you get 6000 points and place 2000 points on $250, 2000 points on $500, and 2000 points on $1000.

Hope this helped. Good luck.

Alex

Okay, for starters it looks like several posts over the last month or two were deleted. I’ve posted at least 3 times here, but am only seeing my initial post. I’m also notified of responses via email and am surprised that some of those responses are missing as well. What gives?

Secondly, here’s an update on the points I’ve used. I put 1,000pts against the $250 gas card about a month ago and did not win despite there being 5 prizes. I did so again this week (same deal, same 1,000 points) and did not win again. At the time, the prize board showed that this prize was 1% of entered points and the top prize was 51% ($5,000 cash). So if I am the only person entering on the gas card (unlikely), that would mean there are 51,000 entries for the $5,000 cash. Probably several times that amount.

I’ve been a loyal NPD panelist for four years and never won anything. I don’t think it’s a scam, but if there are hundreds of thousands of points in there at any given time and I’m only earning 20 per survey, there’s very little chance of winning anything in my opinion. I’ve got another 1,000 pts to blow and then I’m done with them.

Justin, Sorry for the mix up. Yes, we had a little glitch with our database that stores the comments and we lost several days of posts. I tried to restore what I could, but as you pointed out we did in fact lose some responses. If you wish to repost anything that was lost, I would be happy to get your feedback up on the blog.

Again, sorry for the mixup and thanks for your feedback.

No problem and thanks for the fast response. I just wasn’t sure what happened, but thanks for clearing it up! One more quick update – I used up the last of my points tonight, so if I don’t win anything I’m done. Good luck to the rest of you and please post your story here whether you win or lose!

well as it looks my 1850 points were wasted I did not win and with what little points I earn from the servey looks like a big waste of time odds are I’ll never win anything ,thinking I’m done also

Reply

Jamilah January 3, 2010 at 9:25 am

Well, I haven’t won anything yet, and I’ve lost thousands of points, but I think its kind of fun, it doesn’t take too much time to do MOST of the surveys, so I’m thinking I’ll keep banking points for now (excuse this English major’s run on sentence–grammar in blogging doesn’t count, lol). I hope winners keep posting; it helps me stay optimistic! Sour, I cheering for you to win again!

Reply

Justin January 11, 2010 at 9:53 pm

I have also been a member of NPD for several years, I had a total of around 9,000 points that I saved up threw those several years and I entered all my points at once 4 months ago, I placed 5,000 points towards the $5,000 dollars sweepstakes and the other 4,000 towards the $1,000 dollars sweepstakes and this did not make any difference because I never won.
So in my opinion it just is not worth it.

Reply

Matt January 18, 2010 at 6:25 pm

I believe it is just the luck of the draw. Its kind of like the lottery. If you want to win, you’ve gotta play. Sure your chances are better if you bank alot of points and use them all at once. But you have to look at the big picture too. You can either have a 5% chance of winning by entering in your points to some cool things you might want to win. Or a 0% chance at winning by banking your points, and not playing at all. The only plus side to banking is your chances could go up to maybe %35 or so. There are so many people playing you still might not win. Then like Justin, all of that hard work was for nothing! My strategy is going to be distributing my points throughout the board on things i could really use, or like alot. Im going to do this weekly. Ill let you all know if it pays off :) . Good luck everyone!

As someone that has worked in the market research industry for many years I can promise you that NPD is legit. They are definitely giving away all the prizes they promise and can be trusted. The thing is, you’re supposed to fill out the surveys to help manufacturers figure out how to provide the best products and services – it’s not supposed to be a source of income. Anyway, you can be sure THOUSANDS of people are going for each prize – especially the big ones.

I have played a long time. I have switch email to better my chance. Now I have one email address. I think the only way to win is to have 10,000 points on one items. I agree with sour, I will save my points next time. I have voted as much as 500 points on one items, which had three prizes and I did not win.

THE 10,000 POINTS CONTEST IS REALLY A JOKE. I HAVE PLAYED SINCE APRIL AND I HAVE ONLY RECEIVED 5 POINTS ONCE. I HAVE NOT WON ANY MONEY OR ANYTHING. I TRY TO ALWAYS HAVE A LEAST 30 TO 50 POINTS. I HAVE ONLY SEEN ONE PERSON IN GEORGIA WIN ANYTHING. I WILL KEEP PLAYING. I DON’T ENCOURAGE MY FRIENDS TO JOIN ANYMORE, THEY DON’T SEE THE POINT OF NEVER WINNING. I DON’TPUT MY POINS ON THE MONEY ANYMORE. I THINK UNLESS I HAVE A LOT OF POINTS IT IS WASTEFUL. I WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY AND HOPE I WIN SOMETHING NICE TO ENCOURAGE ME AND OTHERS.

I have been “playing” for several years. I have put down 6000 points on an item with less that 1% interest and not won. I have never won 1 shiny penny nor any prizes. I think the people on here that have “won” work for npd or sweepland. I’m tired of wasting my time I’m out!

Richard May 17, 2010 at 8:46 pm

I have been doing NPD and Sweepland for many, many years now. I had over 10,000 points and went and spent 3700 on the Touchscreen computer because the % was low (I do believe under 5%), and I didn’t even win. I usually put in at least 400 points to whatever I’m trying to win. I’ve entered many contests over the years and have never won one thing. It really irks me that I put a lot of time and effort into this (I do answer ALL questions honestly), and after YEARS of helping these companies, I haven’t gotten one bit of compensation.

I do surveys for two other places and have gotten money from them on a regular basis, now THAT is worth my time.

Just found this board. I’m a 40 y.o. f and have been doing surveys with with this company for years. I prefer their surveys they send via regular mail (I think this is the same company? Maybe I’m mistaken…), as they send along a $2 or $5 bill as payment for those. The online ones I don’t do as much, because I hate that I’ve spent all that time doing them and only get a CHANCE at winning something. There are so many other survey companies I’m also in that at least with those I’ve been earning at least a couple giftcards a month.

Reply

Jamilah June 14, 2010 at 6:16 am

I had stopped doing the surveys for a while, perhaps a bit perturbed by not winning anything. I just completed a survey to answer why I hadn’t been doing the surveys, and I suggested that NPD also offer small redeemable prizes for banked points as an option along with the sweepstakes. I think I’ll start answering the surveys again, but I’m not sure I’ll bank points. I’ll probably just play them right away…’cause banking the points and STILL losing sucks, lol.

Reply

Richard June 14, 2010 at 8:13 am

I just spent what points I had left (almost 8000) and still didn’t win anything. This was by far the most points I had put on anything, and seeing my account down to 0 with NO prizes was more than a bit perturbing.

I’ve been doing this for about two years now and have not received any prizes either. I like seeing these blogs up though so I can see that other people have been a bit more fortunate than me. I always do the surveys and points without thinking about it and then about twice a year I put in a few thousand for just the $100 prize. I have put in over 5000 points into it before and still didn’t win. I just don’t stress over it too much and fill out surveys as fast as I can and never get my hopes up. They really need to do a points for cash program so people don’t get so frustrated.
